LinkedIn Has a Problem

Preview

If you’ve looked for a job recently then you may have noticed a glaring problem with LinkedIn.

In the age of AI there are more bots than ever. These bots prey on people looking for work. If you make a post with the hashtag “opentowork” you’ll immediately trigger a response from bots, and scammers.

These accounts pose as recruiters who will tell you that they have the perfect role for you! Wow what luck!

These conversations always reach the same point, which is something along the lines of “Pay for this optimization service to stand out.” This is a scam, and usually takes the form of “resume optimization” or something similar.

Here are some things to watch out for:

  • DUMB LUCK: Too good to be true? Probably is….

  • SPEED: - If someone is getting back to you too fast, this is a red flag. For example, be weary of someone who says their company is ready to move forward with you right away.

  • DETAILS: Always double check the opportunity. Check out company career pages to corroborate the opportunity, make sure the person emailing or messaging you has a legitimate company email or profile.
